Dental Implants

Missing or badly damaged teeth should always be replaced to prevent serious, long-term oral health issues. Tribeca cosmetic dentist Dr. Moezinia recommends dental implants to her patients as the most attractive, effective solution for missing and damaged teeth. Dental implants are the standard by which all other teeth replacement options are judged.

At Empower Your Smile, we don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Dr. Moezinia and her dental care team craft a personalized treatment plan for each patient’s dental implant procedure. This plan is based on the patient’s aesthetic goals, oral health, and the number and type of implants needed. We work closely with each patient to ensure their implant journey progresses smoothly, whether it’s a single dental implant or a complete smile makeover. Our advanced dental lab custom-creates each dental implant and restoration using the latest technology to ensure exceptional comfort and successful integration.

We’ve put together detailed dental implant information below to educate those interested in permanently replacing their missing or damaged teeth. If you want more information, please contact our office at New York Office Phone Number(212) 274-8338.

What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are an incredibly natural-looking, comfortable way to replace teeth. They are custom-designed to seamlessly replace the roots of missing teeth and support permanent dentures, crowns, or full arch restorations. Dental implants restore full function and are so comfortable that you may forget they are not your natural teeth!

Dental implants consist of three parts – a titanium or ceramic post placed in the jawbone, an abutment, and the crown or restoration that replaces the visible portion of the missing tooth or teeth. The implant replaces the missing tooth root, the abutment is a fastener joining the implant to the restoration, and the crown or restoration replaces the visible portion of the missing tooth. These three parts work together to restore both the appearance and functionality of missing teeth.

What are the Benefits of Dental Implants?

Dental implants are a highly sought-after solution for individuals who seek beautiful, natural-looking replacement teeth that function and feel like their natural teeth. The benefits include functional, cosmetic, and health advantages.
Implants are more convenient than other tooth replacement options because they are easy-care. Routine brushing and flossing are required, just like with natural teeth, along with twice-yearly dental checkups. And when you travel, you don’t have to pack extra cleaning supplies or worry about removing dentures at night or for cleaning.
Your dental health benefits from implants in several ways. The implants in the jawbone stimulate the surrounding bone to preserve the jaw structure, ensuring stability and support for dental restorations and preserving the contours of your face. Unlike removable dentures, dental implants will not slip, pinch, or fall out like conventional dentures, sparing you any unexpected embarrassment in social situations.

Empower Your Smile offers several types of dental implants. At your initial appointment, Dr. Moezinia will review each type with you and answer any questions you have so that you can choose the type that is best for you.

Are You a Candidate for Dental Implants?

If you are in good overall health and are looking for a permanent solution for one or more missing teeth, you may be a candidate for dental implants. Many people ask about dental implants because they want a natural-feeling, comfortable alternative to dentures. They are good candidates if they have sufficient jawbone density to support dental implants.
There are a few factors that may rule you out as a candidate for dental implants, including periodontal disease, uncontrolled diabetes, undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatment, certain autoimmune diseases, and clotting disorders.

If Dr. Moezinia or Dr. Toscano determines that dental implants are not the best restoration option for you, they will offer other advanced tooth replacement options. For anyone who is a candidate, she will prepare a customized treatment plan outlining the steps of your dental implant procedure.

Types of Dental Implants

Single Tooth Implant

Single-tooth dental implants include an individual implant post and a dental crown to replace the visible portion of the missing tooth. A single implant is ideal if you have a missing tooth with healthy teeth on either side. The crown is individually designed and crafted to match your natural teeth’s size, shape, and color for a seamless look.

Replacing More Than One Tooth

EYS offers two dental implant options for patients missing more than one tooth. We can restore each tooth with a single implant and crown, or if the missing teeth are grouped together in a row, Dr. Moezinia can design and fabricate a durable implant-retained bridge that is held in place by implants. At your initial consultation, she will explain the advantages and disadvantages of each option and help you choose which will give you the best results.

All-On-4® Implant Dentures

All_On-4 is one an innovative way to replace an entire set of upper or lower teeth using only four dental implants. With All-On-4, Dr. Moezinia or Dr. Toscano strategically places four dental implants in the jawbone at the optimal angles to support an arch of replacement teeth. Patients without sufficient jawbone density and who want to avoid bone grafting are often candidates for All-On-4 implants.

Hybrid Dentures

Hybrid dentures are similar to All-On-4 dentures but are not removable. They are fixed in place permanently by several implants to provide a stable base for the full arch of replacement teeth. The “dentures” are permanently screwed into place on the implants using special abutments and are virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth.

Zirconia Dental Implants

Most implants are made from titanium, a durable, biocompatible metal that is safe and effective. However, there are rare cases of individuals who are sensitive to zirconia. Some patients may prefer non-metal implants. For these patients, they may prefer zirconia dental implants, which are made of high-quality ceramic.

Zirconia dental implants are hypoallergenic and biocompatible, so there are no concerns about a reaction to the material. The implants are white or cream colored, blending in with the natural color of your restorations and natural teeth. Even if a small amount of the implant can be seen along the gum line or at the base of a crown, it will look natural. Other advantages of zirconia implants include:

  • Aesthetic appearance

  • Less risk of infection

  • Less risk of an allergic reaction

  • Less risk of implant rejection

  • Potential for a quicker, more comfortable recovery

  • Implant placement is simpler

  • Incredibly durable and strong

Drs. Moezinia and Toscano can help you determine whether zirconia dental implants are right for you. Please call our office at New York Office Phone Number(212) 274-8338 to schedule a consultation and learn more.

What is the Dental Implant Procedure Like?

On the day of implant placement, we administer a local anesthetic to numb the area. We may also use IV anesthesia to keep you comfortable during the procedure. Dental implant placement can take anywhere from one to three hours, depending on how many implants are placed and their location. We surgically place each implant in the jawbone in the optimal location to support the restoration. The gum tissue is sutured in place, and the area is allowed to heal for several weeks so that the implant can fuse with the surrounding bone. This creates a stable foundation for the restorations. Once healing is complete, an abutment permanently attaches the restoration.

Are There Risks Associated with Dental Implants?

As with any surgery, there are risks. However, dental implant surgery is a common procedure that is extremely safe. We use the latest technology and techniques to ensure the precise placement of each implant and optimal results for every patient. Drs. Moezinia and Toscano have performed the implant procedure countless times with consistent success and minimal pain for their patients. Risks are rare, including damage to adjacent teeth, infection, sinus issues, or nerve damage. Most complications are temporary and can be corrected with appropriate care.

Why Should I See a Cosmetic Dentist for Dental Implants?

Although successful implant surgery is crucial, it is only one step in the process. Working with Dr. Moezinia, a cosmetic dentist, ensures that your dental restorations are functional, beautiful, and in harmony with your facial features. Working together with Dr. Toscano, she addresses functional issues such as proper bite and aesthetics, combining every facet of dental implant care to achieve healthy, beautiful results in fewer procedures.

Why Choose EYS for Dental Implants?

As a cosmetic dentist, Dr. Moezinia is fully trained in both placing dental implants and the aesthetics of dental work. She evaluates your facial features, oral structure, and bite before determining where to place dental implants, considering functional and cosmetic concerns. This holistic approach ensures the results of your dental implant surgery will be not only functional and comfortable but also beautiful and natural-looking.

How Much Do Dental Implants Cost?

No two dental implant procedures are the same. Each procedure is customized based on the type of implant, where it is placed, how many teeth are restored, the type of restoration, what anesthesia is used, the length of surgery, and other factors. Dr. Moezinia will review your options at your initial consultation and provide a detailed quote.

Dental Implants Frequently Asked Questions

Does Getting Dental Implants Hurt?

The implant surgery does not hurt. We numb the area, and most patients choose IV sedation so they are relaxed and semi-conscious during the procedure. During the first week following surgery, some mild to moderate discomfort is easily controlled with over-the-counter pain relievers and ice packs.

Will my implants look realistic?

Yes. We use only the finest materials for our dental restorations. The replacement teeth have the same look, feel, and translucency as natural teeth for a flawless look. They also reduce staining, so their beauty will last for years.

Are dental implants hard to care for?

No. Taking care of implants is the same as taking care of natural teeth. Brush and floss twice daily and see your dentist twice yearly for a dental cleaning and checkup to prevent plaque buildup.

What is the success rate of dental implants?

Dental implants have an impressive success rate of about 97%. However, success rates drop when patients smoke after getting implants or fail to follow their aftercare instructions. Please be sure to follow your post-op instructions carefully to ensure success.
