My 17 year old son had his braces removed in March 2022. He has what looks like a lot of plaque build up. The dentist today wants to put 6 crowns in the front top d/t decay. Is there another option? We tried a filling in one but it came out two months later.
Although for an accurate answer a clinical and radiographic analysis would be necessary, from what you tell us, there is presence of plaque and possibly periodontal disease. So the first step in this patient would be to achieve a healthy periodontal tissue and after that analyze if it is possible to resolve the caries lesions with filling or proceed to veneers. Keep in mind that active periodontal disease causes fillings to fail because adhesion is affected by the disease.
