Gummy Smile Treatment in Tribeca
Gummy smile treatment in NYC that finds the real cause first, then rebalances your gums and teeth so your smile shows more of you.
A smile can look gummy when extra gum tissue covers part of the teeth, when teeth are short or worn, or when the upper lip lifts high. Often it is a mix. It isn’t harmful on its own, but it can make teeth look small and the smile feel out of proportion. The right fix depends entirely on the cause.
Dr. Moezinia studies your teeth, gums and lip movement together. When gum tissue is the issue, she plans crown lengthening or gum contouring with periodontist Dr. Nicholas Toscano. When teeth are short or worn, veneers or bonding may finish the result. Some people need both, in that order.

What to expect
- 01
Smile analysis
Dr. Moezinia looks at how much gum shows at rest and when you smile, the length of your teeth and how your lip moves, then takes photos and an iTero 3D scan.
- 02
A plan with your periodontist
If gum or bone reshaping is needed, Dr. Toscano evaluates the gums and supporting bone so the new gum line is healthy and stable.
- 03
Crown lengthening or gum contouring
Under local anesthesia, excess gum tissue is reshaped, and bone is recontoured when needed, to reveal more of each tooth.
- 04
Healing and finishing touches
Gums need time to settle, often several weeks to a few months before final veneers or bonding are placed. We check your healing along the way.

Treating the cause
She listens first and never imposes a look. You get a clear explanation of what is causing your gummy smile before any treatment is suggested.
Cost and insurance
Cost depends on how many teeth are involved, whether bone reshaping is needed and whether veneers or bonding follow. We review it with you after your evaluation.
Crown lengthening done for a functional reason, such as preparing a broken tooth for a crown, is sometimes covered by insurance. Purely cosmetic gum contouring usually isn’t. We are in network with Delta Dental, Cigna, Aetna, Guardian, MetLife and Anthem PPO plans and accept CareCredit.

What causes a gummy smile?
Common causes are extra gum tissue over the teeth, short or worn teeth, an upper lip that lifts high when you smile, or the position of the upper jaw. Many people have more than one. Finding the cause tells us which treatment will actually help.
What is crown lengthening?
Crown lengthening reshapes the gum, and sometimes the bone beneath it, to expose more of the tooth. It can be done for cosmetic reasons or to give a broken tooth enough surface for a crown.
Is gum contouring painful?
It is done with local anesthetic, so you shouldn’t feel pain during treatment. Afterward, most people have some tenderness for a few days, managed with over-the-counter pain relief and gentle care.
How long does it take to heal?
The gums feel comfortable within a week or two for most people, but the new gum line keeps maturing for several weeks to a few months. Final veneers or bonding are placed once it has settled.
Are the results permanent?
When the gum and bone are reshaped correctly, the new gum line is generally stable long term. Good brushing, flossing and regular cleanings help keep it healthy.
