Dental Implants in Tribeca, NYC

A missing tooth replaced with one that looks, feels and works like your own, planned with an eye for how it will sit in your smile.

A dental implant is a small titanium or ceramic post that takes the place of a tooth root. Once it bonds with the jawbone, it holds a custom crown, a bridge or a full-arch restoration. Implants stand on their own, so the healthy teeth beside the gap stay untouched. They also help keep the jawbone from shrinking after a tooth is lost.

At our Tribeca office, Dr. Patricia Moezinia plans each implant around the final tooth: its shape, its shade and how it meets your bite. Periodontist Dr. Nicholas Toscano places the implant. That pairing gives you a periodontist for the surgery and a cosmetic dentist for the part everyone sees. Most healthy adults missing one or more teeth are candidates.

What to expect

  1. 01

    Complimentary consult and imaging

A 30-minute visit with Dr. Moezinia. We take imaging, look at your bone and gums, and talk through single implants, implant bridges and other options for your case.

  2. 02

Your plan, built around the final tooth

Dr. Moezinia maps where the implant should go so the crown looks natural. If bone is thin, Dr. Toscano may recommend grafting first.

  3. 03

    Implant placement with Dr. Toscano

The post is placed under local anesthesia, with sedation available if you feel anxious. Most people return to normal routines within a day or two.

  4. 04

    Healing and osseointegration

Over roughly three to six months, the implant fuses with the bone. You can often wear a temporary tooth during this time so there is no visible gap.

  5. 05

    Your custom crown

Once the implant is stable, Dr. Moezinia attaches the abutment and places a porcelain crown shaded and shaped to blend with your smile.

Implants vs. bridges vs. dentures

An implant replaces the root as well as the tooth. It stands alone, helps preserve the jawbone and is cleaned much like a natural tooth. It takes the longest, since the bone needs months to heal around it.

A bridge is faster and needs no surgery. It does rely on crowning the teeth on either side of the gap, which means reshaping them. A denture is the most affordable way to replace many teeth, though it can shift and does nothing to stop bone loss.

Implants can also anchor a bridge or a fixed denture when several teeth are missing. At your consult, we will walk through which option suits your mouth, your health and your timeline.

Questions, answered

Am I a candidate for dental implants?

Most healthy adults who are missing teeth are candidates. You need enough jawbone to hold the implant and healthy gums. If bone is thin, grafting can often rebuild it first. Uncontrolled diabetes and heavy smoking can slow healing, so we review your health history at the consult.

How long does the dental implant process take?

From placement to final crown, it commonly takes three to six months while the implant fuses with the bone. If you need an extraction or a bone graft first, add some healing time for that. Your timeline depends on your bone and how you heal.

Does getting an implant hurt?

The area is fully numbed during placement, so most people feel pressure and little else. Some soreness and swelling for a few days afterward is normal and usually managed with over-the-counter pain relief. Sedation is available if you feel nervous.

How long do dental implants last?

With good brushing, flossing and regular checkups, an implant can last for many years and often decades. The crown on top may need replacing at some point from normal wear. Gum health around the implant matters most, which is why we keep a close eye on it.

Who places the implant at Empower Your Smile?

Dr. Moezinia plans your treatment and designs the final crown. Dr. Nicholas Toscano, a periodontist and Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, places the implant. You see both doctors in our Tribeca office.

Are implants covered by dental insurance?

Coverage varies by plan. Some PPO plans pay part of the implant, the crown or both. We are in network with Delta Dental, Cigna, Aetna, Guardian, MetLife and Anthem, and we can check your benefits before you decide. CareCredit is also accepted.
