Tooth-Colored Fillings in Tribeca
Cavities repaired with mercury-free composite, shaded to your tooth and polished so it looks and feels like nothing was ever there.
Tooth-colored fillings, also called white or composite fillings, are made from a resin blended with fine glass or quartz particles. The material bonds directly to the tooth, so it takes less drilling than a traditional metal filling. They work well on small to medium cavities, chips and worn edges, on front and back teeth.
Dr. Patricia Moezinia matches the shade to your tooth, places the composite in thin layers and polishes it to a natural finish. Most fillings take under an hour, and you can go straight back to your day. If you have old silver fillings that are cracked or leaking, we can replace them with mercury-free composite.

What to expect
- 01
Numbing, if you need it
We numb the area so you stay comfortable. Very small fillings sometimes need little or no anesthesia.
- 02
Removing the decay
Dr. Moezinia gently removes the decay and cleans the tooth, keeping as much healthy structure as she can.
- 03
Shade matching and layering
The composite is matched to your tooth and placed in thin layers, each one hardened with a curing light.
- 04
Shaping and polishing
We shape the filling to your bite and polish it smooth. You can eat normally once the numbness wears off.

How long do tooth-colored fillings last?
Composite fillings commonly last five to ten years or more, depending on size, location and how you care for your teeth. Grinding and frequent snacking on sugary foods can shorten their life. We check them at every exam.
Are white fillings as strong as silver fillings?
For small and medium cavities, modern composite holds up well. Very large cavities on back teeth often do better with a porcelain inlay, onlay or crown. Dr. Moezinia will recommend what suits the size of the cavity.
Should I replace my old silver fillings?
If a silver filling is cracked, leaking or has decay around it, replacing it makes sense. If it is intact and you are happy with it, there is often no need to rush. We can talk through the pros and cons at your exam.
Does getting a filling hurt?
With the area numbed, most people feel only light pressure and vibration. The tooth may be a little sensitive to cold for a few days afterward. That usually fades on its own.
Can I eat after a composite filling?
Yes. Composite is hardened with a light before you leave, so it is set right away. Wait until the numbness wears off so you don’t bite your cheek or tongue.
